Potty Training Progress

Disclaimer: This post is full of poop.  If you don't like hearing about poop, or even the word "poop" maybe skip this one and come back tomorrow.  ;D

Although I introduced Matthew to the potty at around 2 1/2 his interest level was low, so I didn't push him.  When he turned 3 I really got into the whole potty training thing and put him in big boy underwear for a week and voila!  One potty trained preschooler ready to go!  During the day, anyway.  He still hasn't had a dry night, and let me tell you, those overnight underwear are expensive.  I've been told this can be normal up to age seven... argggg!!

But I'm not really here to talk about Matt right now... I want to talk about Lucas!  Lucas got a potty for Christmas last year (isn't Santa the bomb?) and I would sit him on it every now and then, when I thought of it, but again, I was in no rush.  He showed a lot more interest in it that Matt ever did, so pretty soon I was encouraging him to pee in his potty after every diaper change.  And usually he did pee, even if it was just a little bit.  Lately I've ditched the potty.  Now I sit him on the big toilet seat after every diaper change.  He's not intimidated or scared of falling in at all, and actually prefers the bare seat to covering it with his detachable potty cushion.  Sometimes he'll tell me he wants to go potty and we'll rush to the bathroom.  He hasn't told me quite on time yet, but when he does tell me, there's only a little in the diaper, and he finishes on the toilet.  Pretty good for the totally lazy laid-back approach we're taking.

A few times I've caught him umm... you know... squatting and grunting in the corner.  I'd ask him if he wanted to poop on the potty and he'd get up, embarrassed like, and... get this... *change the subject*!  For real!  He'd start babbling about the first thing he saw and would not respond to any attempt to get him to poop on the potty, or even acknowledge that he was in the middle of a poop at all.  Yesterday afternoon though, a change!  He popped a squat in the living room and I noticed.

"Lucas, do you want to go poop on the potty?"
"See the kitty?"
"Yeah, I see it baby.  C'mom, let's go poop on the potty"
"badaligue aovi9uv0erjgneov9u 09user9th4ngfb vkkbdfkg"  (gibberish for: "I'm ignoring your question, but I can't think of anything else to say right now.")
"Hey, you know, you can go poop on the potty."
"Poop on the potty?"
"Yeah, do you want to poop on the potty?"
"Yah!  Poop on the potty!"

I don't know what happened, but it clicked!  So I quick took off his diaper with just a little poop in it, and sat him on the toilet.  He sat there.  I sat on the edge of the tub.  Nothing.

"All done!"
"No Luke, sit and go poop on the potty."

A little "plunk" sound.  He looks in the toilet between his chubby legs.  "Ewwwwww!"

He did it!  And a few more times, until he was done!  Luke pooped in the toilet!

LOL I know that for some people getting excited over this shit (no pun intended.  Well, ok, yeah, it was intended) is weird.  Maybe you don't have kids, maybe you forgot what potty training was like (I wouldn't blame you.  I have no recollection of Matt's first poop in the toilet), but this is a milestone.  And.. I wanted to share it with you all, and save it for future reference... you know, for when my SIL starts giving my boys cousins.
